The following scholarships are for Oregon residents applying as first-year, freshmen for the Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 terms.  Your application for admission must be received by OSU by February 1, 2020, and all supporting documentation must be received by February 14, 2020 to be eligible for consideration.  Ecampus (distance/online) and international students are not eligible for these scholarships.  All scholarship awards are offered subject to the availability of funding.

Finley Academic Excellence Scholarship for New Resident Freshmen Students

  • Awards are available for students attending the Corvallis and Bend campuses
  • Awards are renewable for up to three additional years (up to four years of funding total)
  • Scholarships are automatically awarded based upon your OSU application for admission
  • Official high school transcripts and official test scores from a testing service are required for consideration
  • Unweighted high school GPA is used to determine scholarship eligibility
  • Award offers will be finalized in March based on academic records received on or before February 14, 2020
  • Recipients may be eligible for additional scholarships through the university, alumni and/or donors, and the academic colleges/departments
 

Presidential Scholarship

As Oregon State University’s most prestigious award, the Presidential Scholarship rewards academic excellence and inspires recipients to continue to be a positive force in the world.  The scholarship is highly competitive, with Presidential Scholars in line to pursue elite awards such as the Goldwater, Fulbright and Truman Scholarships upon graduation from Oregon State. The Presidential Scholarship provides up to $40,000 in funding during the student’s undergraduate career ($10,000 per year, renewable for up to four years total).  

To be considered for the Presidential Scholarship, students must be current Oregon high school seniors, must be considered Oregon residents at time of application for admission, must have a minimum 3.85 unweighted high school GPA, and must have a minimum score of 1360 on the new SAT or 29 on the ACT. In addition, applicants are evaluated on their scholarship application and Insight Resume response, specifically in the following areas:

  • Our understanding of you as a unique, contributing individual
  • Your accomplishments, experiences, and talents
  • Your achievements within the context of your social and personal circumstances
  • Your participation in activities that develop academic, intellectual, and leadership abilities

No separate application is required to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship. Students who meet the minimum criteria listed above and apply for admission prior to February 1 are automatically considered for the award.

     

    National Merit Scholarship

    OSU collaborates with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) to award merit-based scholarships.  Students selected as National Merit Finalists who list OSU as their first-choice school on the NMSC application will receive scholarship support totaling at least $2,000 per year for up to four years total.  This support may include a scholarship award from the NMSC, a scholarship award from OSU, or both.

     

    International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Scholarship

    Students participating in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program may qualify for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Scholarship.  To qualify, entering freshmen must have scored a total of 30 or higher on the IB exam and complete the IB Diploma.  Award offers will be finalized after exam scores are verified in July.  Awards are $3,000 annually and renewable for up to 3 additional years (up to $12,000 over four years).

     

    OSU College and Departmental Scholarships

    OSU's colleges and departments offer donor-funded scholarship opportunities to students who are currently enrolled, or plan to enroll (incoming freshmen or transfer students), in an academic program within their college or department.  OSU's colleges and departments typically award over $10 million dollars in donor-funded scholarships to thousands of students each year!

    Most colleges and departments accept applications for these scholarship awards through OSU's scholarship management system, OSU ScholarDollars.  ScholarDollars begins accepting applications on November 1st each year.  Most scholarships have an application deadline on or after February 1st, but individual deadlines may vary.  Submit your application before February 1st to maximize your scholarship opportunities!

     

    ROTC

    OSU is one of the few universities to have an Army, Air Force, and Naval (Navy and Marine Corps) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program on campus.  The focus of the ROTC program is leadership, management, and character development in the hope of preparing students for careers in the Armed Forces.  Scholarships are awarded via national boards and selectively by the commanding officers of each unit. OSU also provides select ROTC students with additional Provost and Foundation Scholarship money that is awarded based on merit and financial need.     The OSU Scholarship Office evaluates any third-party scholarship information submitted to our office for validity, legitimacy, and applicability to OSU students.  Scholarships are submitted from local, state, national, and international organizations and are not specifically affiliated with OSU.  Students can learn more about third-party scholarships through OSU ScholarDollars

    Tips for searching for third-party scholarships:

    • Ensure that the awarding agency is an actual organization
    • Check the organization's website for validity and reviews
    • Never pay to apply for scholarships
    • Contact the organization and ask to speak with a scholarship representative
