The following scholarships are for students enrolling for the first time starting in the Summer or Fall 2018 only. All scholarships are based on available funding.  Application for admission must be received by February 1 and all supporting documentation must be received by February 16.  E-campus (distance/online) students are not eligible for these scholarships.

Transfer credits, including credits earned in AP/IB courses and/or dual enrollment, do not count toward the annual credit amount required for renewal.

Provost Scholarship

The Provost Scholarship is automatically awarded to those non-resident students that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence. Awards range from $12,000 to $32,000 over a student’s academic career ($3,000-$8,000 renewable annually).

Golden State Scholarship

The Golden State Scholarship is awarded to California residents only that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence. Last year, 2/3 of California students received scholarships and/or gift aid!

Evergreen State Scholarship

The Evergreen State Scholarship is awarded to Washington residents only that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence. Last year, 2/3 of Washington students received scholarships and/or gift aid!

Aloha Scholarship

The Aloha Scholarship is awarded to Hawaii residents only that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence. Last year, 3/4 of Hawaii students received scholarships and/or gift aid!

Gem State Scholarship

The Gem State Scholarship is awarded to Idaho residents only that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence. Last year, 2/3 of Idaho students received scholarships and/or gift aid!

Aloha, Evergreen State, Gem State, Golden State and Provost Scholarship recipients are considered for additional scholarship support based on need as determined by the FAFSA.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their admission application and their FAFSA in the Fall, as these awards are made on a rolling basis shortly following admission to OSU.

OSU participates with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) to award merit-based scholarships.  Students selected as finalists in the College-Sponsored program who list OSU as their first-choice school on the NMSC application will receive an additional $8,000 over four years.

Students participating in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program may qualify for the IB Diploma Scholarship.  To qualify, entering freshmen must have scored a total of 30 or higher on the IB exam and indicated pursuit of the IB Diploma.  Awards will be finalized once scores are verified by the IBO in July.  Awards are $3,000 annually / $12,000 over four years.

The OSU Alumni Association Legacy Access Awards are for incoming freshmen or transfers who have a parent or guardian that is an Oregon State alumnus.  This scholarship is designed to assist prospective students that may not otherwise be able to afford college.  This is a need-based award with a one-time value of $2,000.  Qualifications include:  proof of legacy, 3.65 cumulative GPA, and 1200 SAT.  Selections are competitive and made in March during the competitive round.

OSU is one of the few universities to have an Army, Air Force, and Naval (Navy and Marine Corps) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program on campus.  The focus of the ROTC program is leadership, management, and character development in the hope of preparing students for careers in the Armed Forces.  Scholarships are awarded via national boards and selectively by the commanding officers of each unit. OSU also provides select ROTC students with additional Provost and Foundation Scholarship money that is awarded based on merit and financial need. The OSU Scholarship Office evaluates any third-party scholarship information submitted to our office for validity, legitimacy, and applicability to OSU students. Scholarships are submitted from local, state, national, and international organizations and are not specifically affiliated with OSU. Students can browse posted scholarships here

Tips for searching for third-party scholarships:

  • Ensure that the awarding agency is an actual organization
  • Check the organizations website for validity and reviews
  • Never pay to apply for scholarships
  • Email or call the organization and ask to speak with the scholarship representative
  • Develop a scholarship resume and standard essay to submit with scholarship applications
